About Komline Pure Water
Komline Pure Water designs and manufactures custom water and wastewater treatment systems for communities and industrial customers. Our team develops practical treatment solutions for a range of applications, including remote communities and demanding operating environments.
Position Overview
We are seeking a CAD Designer to support the design and fabrication of custom water and wastewater treatment equipment. Based at our Surrey facility, this role will create detailed drawings, layouts, and models for packaged treatment systems, process piping, equipment skids, and modular installations.
The CAD Designer will work closely with engineering, project management, purchasing, and fabrication teams to translate project requirements into accurate, coordinated drawings. The ideal candidate brings strong drafting skills, attention to detail, and a practical understanding of how equipment is built, installed, and maintained.
Key Responsibilities
Design and Drafting
- Prepare and revise 2D drawings and 3D models for water and wastewater treatment systems.
- Develop general arrangement drawings, equipment layouts, piping layouts, fabrication details, and assembly drawings.
- Create and update process flow diagrams and piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs) using engineering input.
- Incorporate equipment dimensions, connection points, supports, access clearances, and maintenance requirements into layouts.
- Prepare bills of materials and component lists to support purchasing and fabrication.
Project Coordination
- Work with process, mechanical, electrical, and controls teams to coordinate design requirements.
- Review vendor drawings and equipment information for integration into system layouts.
- Identify drawing conflicts, missing information, and potential fabrication or installation issues.
- Incorporate approved design changes while maintaining accurate drawing revisions and project records.
- Support design reviews and communicate drawing questions clearly to project teams.
Fabrication and Installation Support
- Collaborate with shop personnel to answer drawing questions and support efficient fabrication and assembly.
- Confirm dimensions and equipment arrangements through shop measurements or site information.
- Update drawings to reflect approved field and fabrication changes.
- Prepare as-built drawings and support final project documentation.
- Help improve drawing templates, CAD libraries, and drafting standards.
Required Qualifications
- Diploma or certificate in mechanical design, drafting, CAD technology, or a related discipline; equivalent practical experience will be considered.
- Experience preparing detailed drawings for mechanical equipment, piping systems, industrial installations, or fabricated assemblies.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and experience with 3D CAD software.
- Ability to interpret engineering sketches, specifications, vendor drawings, and P&IDs.
- Understanding of dimensions, tolerances, drawing conventions, and revision control.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage priorities across multiple projects.
- Clear communication skills and ability to collaborate with engineering and fabrication teams.
- Ability to work on-site at the Surrey facility.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with water or wastewater treatment equipment.
- Familiarity with pumps, valves, tanks, filters, membrane systems, and process instrumentation.
- Experience designing skid-mounted, modular, or containerized equipment layouts.
- Proficiency with SolidWorks, Autodesk Inventor, Plant 3D, or comparable design software.
- Knowledge of piping materials, fittings, equipment supports, and fabrication methods.
- Experience preparing bills of materials and working with document-management or ERP systems.
Work Environment
This position involves office-based CAD work and regular collaboration in a fabrication environment. Occasional site visits may be required to gather measurements, verify layouts, or support project installation.
