Use the correct account

Most water and sewer service charges appear on the annual tax notice. Metered water or sewer customers receive quarterly bills. These are different payment accounts.

For bank payments select Maple Ridge’s Utility or metered-water payee and use the account number on that bill. Flat-rate charges on the property tax notice belong in the property tax payment account.

UPAWS withdraws the bill amount on its due date and continues until cancelled in writing. Sellers must cancel their own plan. Three consecutive failed withdrawals lead to cancellation; dishonoured payments can attract fees and penalties.

Visa and Mastercard payments through MyCity or eServices have a non-refundable 2% merchant fee. Paymentus has a $1,000 utility transaction limit and adds its own convenience fee.

Avoid receipt-date mistakes

Bank transfers need at least two business days. City Hall takes debit, cheque, card and cash under $5,000, on weekdays 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Credit cards still attract the 2% fee.

Do not leave cash in the drop box. Include the remittance slip or account details with a cheque. Mailed payments count when received, not when posted. Late metered amounts receive a 10% penalty; unpaid December 31 balances move to tax arrears.
